The National Wildlife Federation has a great website full of information. You can register your yard as a Certified Wildlife Habitat if you are able to provide food, water, and nesting sites for wildlife.  

The Butterfly Highway is a conservation initiative in NC with the goal of restoring native pollinator habitats anywhere from backyards to roadside habitat restoration such that pollinators will have many habitat patches they can use throughout the state. 

The Million Pollinator Garden Challenge (MPGC)  

Put forth by the National Pollinator Garden Network to support President Obama's Executive Strategy to "Promote the Health of Honey Bees and Other Pollinators", this is a nationwide call to action to encourage gardens and landscapes that are beneficial to the health of bees, butterflies, birds, bats and other pollinators across America by making available to them more native and non-invasive pollen- and nectar-producing plants . One of its goals is to provide in a garden or landscape a continuous bloom of flowers that will provide nectar and pollen throughout the growing season.

 The idea of a "Homegrown National Park" was initiated by Doug Tallamy, an entomology prof at the University of Delaware who has written a few very popular books recently about the plight of native insects and how we can help. 

The Pollinator Partnership is large-scale initiative has many different programs to spread awareness of the importance of pollinators and to encourage their protection.
